Many of us who have had the privilege of sitting repeatedly with a genuine medium, or have had an NDE or OBE or direct contact with loved ones who have crossed over, know that we have received amazing evidence that life is eternal.

But as Michael Tymn points out, many in the academic community remain determined to ignore the evidence, no matter how impressive it is. "Some esteemed men and women of science observed a particular medium on hundreds of occasions under conditions completely ruling out deception of any kind. And yet, other scientists concluded that fraud was the only explanation, primarily because everything they observed defied known natural law. Their careers would have been endangered had they subscribed to an unnatural or 'unscientific' explanation."

"Journalists and historians, wanting to appear intelligent and scientific, not as gullible fools buying into ridiculous 'religious' superstition and folly, usually aligned themselves with the debunkers, completely ignoring the controlled studies by some researchers and recording only the verdicts of the debunkers."

So today we say "well done" to all of those who have been able to withstand the hostility and disinformation of academia, fundamentalist religion, the mainstream media, and well-meaning relatives and rely on their own experience and discernment.

Researcher Neil Helm has speculated that Edgar Cayce, perhaps the best known psychic of the 20th century, may have had an NDE. It seems that Edgar Cayce drowned at around the age of five and was pronounced dead by a physician. COMMENTARY: WHERE THERE IS AN EFFECT THERE MUST BE A CAUSE
https://www.victorzammit.com/images/vicrussiasm7.jpgWhen we look at the scale of the universe, it is impossible not to be awed by its mystery and majesty. And when we begin to understand the powerful laws that govern the universe, it is difficult to accept that they came about “spontaneously” and without an intelligent cause. Where there are laws, there must be a lawmaker.

Here are just three examples that defy chance.

1). There are thirty trillion cells in the human body. Imagine the constant power, design, and the intelligence that controls, maintains, and directs this huge number of cells to work in co-ordination to reproduce, maintain, and heal the body.

2). The human genome has approximately 3 billion base pairs of DNA arranged into 46 chromosomes. This was the fact that finally broke Anthony Flew’s atheism (see next item). He marvelled at the fact that within the tiny space in every cell in your body, there is a code three billion letters long which instructs the cell how to develop.

3). Consciousness - what scientists call “the hard problem. No-one has been able to provide any mechanism to explain how a collection of physical cells suddenly become conscious.

Its core beliefs, as expressed in the 7 guiding principles of Spiritualism, are a challenge to atheism as they recognise the existence of an all-intelligent creating force.

Spiritualism teaches that there is life after death but rejects the idea that we merge into formlessness. On the basis of evidence from years of spirit contact, Spiritualists have concluded that we retain the same personalities and characteristics, and we change only as a result of our own efforts. It rejects the concept of an eternal hell, saying instead that "eternal progress is open to every human soul".

A key part of Spiritualist science is that there exists evidence that communication with departed spirits can, and does, take place. Early Spiritualists called this "The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels".

Having Spiritualism formally recognised as a religion has been important in some contexts as it offers legal and social protection for the practice of mediumship and spiritual healing.

At a time before the Internet and New Age bookshops, Spiritualist churches and newspapers were one of the few places where people could learn about the philosophy and science of Spiritualism and spiritual healing. Soon after his transition, he made contact with his daughter Estelle through automatic writing. She published his description of his early experiences where he was taken to a reception station as The Blue Island, Experiences of a New Arrival Beyond the Veil. Estelle remained in contact with her father as he learned more about how the afterlife works, and in 1933 published Life Eternal which deals with her father's description of his conditions, how communication works, and what he had learned about reincarnation (see a full list of topics in the book preview). The family’s first medium was their Scottish nanny, Elizabeth Poole. She started by using the Ouija board but moved on to table tipping, where a table would stop tipping when the “correct” letter was pronounced aloud. This led to investigations into telekinesis, or the movement of physical objects through mental exertions. Later she introduced the family to her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Marshall, (1880-1963) who was an ectoplasmic physical medium able to produce materialised hands. The question always arises, could our Out-of-Body states with its incursions into other dimensional realities simply be a trick, played by our mind? A form of self delusion or wishful thinking to counteract our fear of our inevitable physical demise? This is Part Five in this series of Afterlife Answers and deals with questions like, will our earthly misdemeanors catch up with us after death and if so how? The dead don't contact us as we imagine.
